TURNED BACK »

Several years ago I lived in an old farmhouse, along a river, in Eastern Washington. I taught at a university, and was renovating the house with my husband. It seemed an idyllic life, and yet I felt a deep sadness because I couldn’t admit that I had made a terrible mistake in my marriage.

A GRACEFUL PILGRIMAGE »

Earlier today I was interviewed for an hour on a Seattle radio show. The program’s host, Robert Dubiel, was conducting a series of dialogues to gather material for a book about the difference between traveling as a tourist and traveling as a spiritual pilgrim.  During the weeks that I was mentally preparing for this interview, [...]

SECOND SIGHT– OR FIRST? »

This is an experience that happened to me late 1975 or 76.  I was a practicing vision specialist at the time and I’d been wearing glasses for 9 years. I didn’t see well without glasses.  I could barely see the big E on the eye chart, and needed them to drive.  I started doing some [...]

REUNITED BY “CHANCE” »

My maternal grandmother, Mariam, died when my mother was a child. She was from Lebanon and moved to the U.S. before my mother was born. Although we knew quite a bit about my grandfather’s side of the family, we knew almost nothing about hers. We found one small photo of her and for some reason, [...]

FOLLOW YOUR DREAM (Chapter 2) »

At the end of Chapter 1, Sunny reports:  “I became an EMT in NY, and worked in very cold weather and carried very heavy patients day and night. But my wage was only $7 per hour.
After two years, I was watching the Travel Channel having Crazy Horse Beer and baby carrots.  The show was showing [...]

BAD BACK MOUNTAIN »

As I was born with a bad back, I was unable to participate in school sports and was in a lot of pain a good deal of time.  My father, an oral surgeon, took me to the various specialists who worked on back problems, and they all recommended I should have my vertebrae fused in [...]

MIRACLE IN A TEAR »

Fire In My Vein
The needle, the flash of blood
Inject –
Feelings of ecstasy, power
Inhibition completely dissolves.
I am at the mercy of a synthetic compound
Over stimulated pleasure centers
Flooded with dopamine.
I am hyper alert, energetic, fearless
Addicted to the “feeling”
But numb to the devastation
Mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
